props to mlp fim for going 4 whole seasons without a cliché brain swap episode
let’s all look forward to said cliché brain swap episode in season 5 as the writers run out of ideas because they’ve already used almost 100 different…
There is an episode of Smallville where Clark swaps bodies with Lex Luthor’s father, and since it’s not a cartoon, it’s just the actors playing each other. I haven’t seen it in forever but I remember Tom Welling just fucking KILLING it as Lionel Luthor, he had the character down perfectly.
There are tons of webcomics out there that would make great animated series, and animator Matt Bixler gives us a taste of what those cartoons would look like.
Someone wrote about me! Apparently about a month ago io9 did a really nice writeup about Webcomics, Animated! Between this and the huge response from the Ava’s Demon community, I’m starting to feel pretty proud of the response I’m getting.
Thank you everyone who’s reading! Thank you Lauren Davis, you’re aces!
I always thought people knew when someone was writing about them, I feel like such a shit for letting this sit for a month!
I’m trying an experiment! Send me the name of a character, what they’re from, and a description that will fit in a tumblr ask. Over the next couple of days, I’ll draw them to the best of my ability. The goal is to have them all compiled together into a zine that I can hand out this weekend at Momocon.
where is erika is a cyboooooorg (am i remembering the name right?)
If anyone here hasn’t read it, I did a comic almost two years ago (jesus) called Erica is Actually a Robot in the midst of my squeezed-out-in-my-work-time webcomic.
I have a whole other Erica story written and thumbed out, and I’ve redrawn that first page about four times now. Comics are something I love to write, and then actually getting them out is this constant process of doubt.
The short version is that Erica was going to be a one-or-two comic thing and now I’ve got a ton of it written. I just need to wring it out of myself.
While you’re waiting, go read O Human Star, it hits a lot of notes I want to hit with Erica down the line.
Hello there :) I've got a question I bet a lot of people asked you the same thing but I'll ask you anyway :p Which tools are you using and what's your inspiration ? I really like your art :)
Haha, I actually haven’t been asked been asked this so thank you!
I mostly work digitally, usually in Photoshop or Flash, though I’ve been enjoying using Mischief for just doing little sketch stuff. When I’m not doing digital, I usually work in ink, usually cheapie little micron pens. As for inspiration, that’s a hard question to answer, since I haven’t been feeling super inspired lately! I sort of just always draw, I’ve actually caught a bit of flack for drawing while standing around in the lobby of the hotel where I work.
If I had to pin down something I would call inspiration, it mostly comes from wanting to be as good as someone else. Whenever I finish reading a Brandon Graham or a Josh Lesnick comic, I want to make comics just like Brandon Graham or Josh Lesnick. Whenever I finish watching some movie that Brad Bird directed then I want to make an awesome cartoon like Brad Bird.
So I guess if I had to narrow it all down I draw on the computer and my inspiration is I wanna be someone who’s better than I am!
