I was just thinking not ten minutes ago about Jack’s romance plot and how different it was to most of those in other games.

In most games with a romance sub-plot you have a clearly defined end goal of “I’m gonna nail this person.”  You go through the courtship, you build a relationship, this blossoms into a romance, and is culminated with sex.  Sometimes you’ll get an achievement.  There’s occasional talk and confirmation within the game afterward about how you and the person you went after are now a couple, but otherwise the subplot is over and the goal is achieved.

The only exception I’ve seen to this (and if anyone has a counter-example, please let me know because I’m interested) is Jack in ME2.  Before I get into this, I haven’t played through her romance plot, only read about it.  If I get anything wrong, please correct me.

Long story short, you have the opportunity to sleep with Jack very soon after she joins her party.  With the right lines of dialog you can actually do this almost immediately, but this is actually stop the romance subplot dead in its tracks, and she will lose interest in you afterward.

ME2 Spoilers ahead but we’ve all beaten 3 and whined about the ending by now anyway.
